Creating better conditions for the integration of foreigners into the majority society of Slovakia is one of the goals of the Government's Council for Human Rights, Ethnic Minorities and Gender Equality.
The Government approved a new Integration Policy of the Slovak Republic and created a special committee within the council that would deal with the rights of foreigners who have acquired either a permanent or a temporary residency or of people who have received asylum in the country. Some 25,000 such foreigners from outside the EU currently live in Slovakia, which is one of the lowest numbers in the EU, says data of the Integration policy. The policy proposes concrete steps towards changes in housing, health care, labour and social protection and education of foreigners in Slovakia.
