The three-time interior minister and current MP for the governing SMER-SD party Robert Kalinak will leave Parliament before the end of this year. Kalinak confirmed this on Thursday on a TV program of the Pravda daily. Kalinak explained his departure from public office in particular by wanting to repay his debt toward his own family. According to Pravda.sk he was to give up his mandate on Friday. Kalinak does not know at this point whether his departure from politics is definitive. However, he said he would remain a party member of SMER-SD. Opposition parties appreciate his step adding that it comes too late. Kalinak resigned as the interior minister in the wake of the murders of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova.
