Slovakia opposes Austria over “New Deal for Consumers”

Austria, which currently holds the EU Council Presidency, removed the punishment for dual quality products from the section on business malpractices laid down in the prepared legislation "New Deal for Consumers". Deputy Prime Minister and Agriculture Minister Gabriela Matecna (SNS) is strictly against this move, and has started organizing a coalition of the countries against it. She immediately organized a meeting with the Romanian agriculture minister. Romania is set to take over the EU Council Presidency from Austria as of January 2019.
