The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Trenčin cancelled the accusations of threatening the safety of miners against twelve Greenpeace activists who at the end of November climbed a mining tower in Nováky to protest against coal mining. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the activists did not threaten any public service. The mining tower on which they protested was not intended for the transport of miners. It is used to transport the extracted coal from under the ground to the surface, and there is also another way of getting the coal to the ground. The operation of the Nováky power plant was not jeopardized as coal reserves were available. According to Greenpeace Slovakia's director Ivana Kohutková, the criminal proceedings, however, are not at an end and the investigation will focus on whether the crime of general threats against property has been committed. The police will investigate new evidence, and then assess whether the whole affair is being evaluated as a violation or whether the case will be completely dropped.
