Police Idle Following Neo-Nazi Assaults

Despite four months passing, police have not still taken action against Neo-Nazis who broke the leg of the owner of a bar and left two students unconscious in two attacks in the town of Nitra, according to the daily Sme.

One of the attacks was caught on the police CCTV camera system with the faces of the perpetrators being clearly visible. Independent MP Daniel Lipšic (NOVA) initiated an extraordinary session of two parliamentary committees to look into the alleged idleness of the police following the attacks. “There has been published information on a relatively grave attack against defenceless people in Nitra, with extremists suspected”, said Lipšic, adding that he wants an explanation from Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák and Police Corps president Tibor Gaspar. Questions remain unanswered as to why the prosecutor's office has not pressed charges even four months after the attack.
