Regulated rent which has been applied for more than twenty years since the fall of the Communist regime is contrary to the human rights of the owners of such residential properties.
This is the verdict in the first such case to be on the table the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), with the Justice Ministry announcing the outcome of the dispute with the Slovak Republic. The verdict of the court concerns in particular the owners of approximately one thousands apartments in Slovakia, who can now demand levels of rent corresponding to current market rates. Twenty home owners directly involved in the process will have three months to agree upon levels of reimbursement with the Slovak government.
