Slovak stance in Brussels

Slovakia will promote maintaining the current level of funding for the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy in Brussels at the European Council session held on December 13-14, said Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) at a meeting of the parliamentary committee for European affairs on Thursday. The EU leaders at a summit extended the sanctions against Russia for another six months - until July 2019. This was done in connection with the latest escalation of tensions between Russia and Ukraine in the Sea of Azov. Before the talks of the EU leaders, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini thus told journalists that Slovakia would not go against the sanctions imposed against Russia. The premier also stated that Slovakia would reject efforts to revise the text of the Brexit agreement, although a supplementary declaration may be possible.
