Prosecutor General Jaromir Čižnár requested on Monday the file concerning the detained Greenpeace activists, whom the District Court in Prievidza ordered to be held in custody during criminal prosecution for their protest against coal mining in Nováky. According to spokesperson Andrea Predajňová, he requested the file in connection with the demand to withdraw the case from the jurisdiction of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Trenčín, and at the same time to examine the actions of law enforcement agencies. Last Wednesday, police detained Greenpeace activists from four countries after they climbed the tower above the mine in the company Hornonitrianske Bane Prievidza displaying a 15-meter banner demanding an end to coal mining. The District Court in Prievidza on Sunday ruled that 12 activists should be kept in custody during their criminal prosecution. The stated reason is the concern that they might continue to commit crimes. All of them appealed against the detention decision, to be decided by the Regional Court in Trenčín.
