Slovak parliament approved a version of the resolution to the UN Global Migration Compact, proposed by the largest governing SMER-SD party. The strong opponent of the Compact, the junior governing Slovak National Party (SNS), thus agreed on a compromise, as the resolution does not include a ban on Slovakia sending its representative to the negotiations on the Compact in Marrakech. However, according to Tibor Bernaťák of the SNS, his party continues to insist on it. Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák, a SMER-SD nominee, former President of the UN General Assembly and one of the authors said that if Slovakia did not send its representative to Marrakech, he would resign. "If you are not at the table, you end up on the menu," said Lajčák earlier this week.
