Finance Minister Peter Kazimir (Smer-SD) is interested in the post of Slovak Central Bank (NBS) governor, the Finance Ministry stated after incumbent NBS governor Jozef Makuch on Tuesday announced his intent to resign while his term was supposed to expire in 2021. Kazimir also added that he wishes to withdraw from active politics. Kazimir reflects on his tenure at the helm of the Finance Ministry as a story of piecemeal consolidation of public finances, which will translate into a balanced budget next year. He also broached measures he introduced that lead to a more streamlined tax collection. According to TASR sources within Smer-SD, former Financial Administration president Frantisek Imrecze is perceived as one of the top candidates for the NBS governorship, with another likely name being also Smer-SD MP and parliamentary financial committee chair Ladislav Kamenicky.
