Brexit deal also contains Slovakia's comments

Neither Slovakia, nor the EU27, is glad that one of its members is leaving, but the United Kingdom remains a strategic partner for the European Union, stated the Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini after an extraordinary EU summit in Brussels on Sunday, where the EU leaders endorsed the deal on Brexit. The Slovak PM pointed out that Slovakia was not a passive observer of the negotiations, but it also put forward its own comments. The political declaration includes comments on how to find ways to collaborate in the area of family law and in harmonising social systems. According to the Slovak premier, both EU leaders and the UK's Prime Minister Theresa May have shown interest in a strong and strategic partnership between the United Kingdom and the EU. Another subject of the agreement was the status of Slovaks living and working in the United Kingdom during the transitional period and a guarantee that it would not be affected. The UK Parliament is expected to vote on the deal on 12 December, but its approval is far from guaranteed. The United Kingdom is scheduled to leave the EU on 29 March 2019.
