According to Poštová, Slovakia’s debt per capita is €7,600. Given that the average monthly wage is €803, every citizen would have to work for more than nine months to collectively repay the debt.

However, the position of the country is not bad compared to other states; the average debt in Europe represents €22,300 per capita. “It is also caused by the fact that we cannot borrow as much as western European countries in which investors trust more”, explains prognosticator in the Slovak Academy of Sciences Vladimir Baláž.
