US Ambassador awards Slovak students ahead of Thanksgiving

US Ambassador to Slovakia Adam Sterling on Tuesday presented an award to the winner of a contest involving photographs taken by the participants in the US governmental 'Summer Work and Travel Programme'. Erik Malíček won the contest with a picture called 'The Northern Lights through My Eyes', which he took in a national park in Alaska four days before he returned to Slovakia.
Within the programme 2,700 Slovak students travelled to work in the USA this summer. It's still the most popular US exchange programme, said US Embassy spokesman Griffin Rozell. A jury chose 31 photographs from a total of 100, and people had a chance to vote for the best ones on the US embassy's Facebook profile. The US embassy organised the awards ceremony for the fourth time shortly before Thanksgiving Day. This year it falls on November 22.
