US Secretary of State praises Slovak contribution to international missions

Slovakia's contribution to international missions in Afghanistan and Iraq are among the things praised by the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo. He stated this during his meeting with the Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák in Washington D.C. on Wednesday. In their talks, Lajčák and Pompeo discussed a wide scope of foreign policy and security issues that resonate today not only in Europe but also on the American political scene. The head of Slovak diplomacy drew attention to the importance of continuing the transatlantic dialogue, stressing that Europe has a natural interest in overcoming existing differences, not only in the commercial and economic sphere. In this context, he expressed the belief that there was no alternative to the Brussels-Washington partnership - which is based on shared values, goals and firmly rooted ties - in today's global world.

During his working visit to Washington, Miroslav Lajčák also signed a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding between the US Government, acting through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry. Slovakia is the first country among the former recipients of US development aid in the Central and South-eastern Europe region with which the US government has concluded such an agreement.
