Foreign Affairs Minister in Geneva discussing sustainable peace

Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák delivered a speech on the agenda of sustainable peace on the second day of the Geneva Peace Week event in the 'town hall meeting' format on Tuesday, the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry announced that day. Lajčák stated that the issue of peace was at the forefront of his recently expired year-long tenure as President of the 72nd UN General Assembly. He emphasised that he considers the reactive role of the international community to be insufficient in addressing conflicts and it was only in 2016 when two resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly began to place greater focus on conflict prevention. In this context, Lajčák drafted a roadmap and convened a top-level meeting in April to deal with the given agenda. "In order to meet this goal, it's necessary to revisit political thinking, show genuine political will and make the most effective use of the multilateral system, at the heart of which lies the UN," thinks Lajčák.
