Murdered journalists Ján Kuciak from Slovakia and Daphne Caruana Galizia from Malta posthumously received the Goldene Victoria 2018 - Pressefreiheit media prize in the category of press freedom at the Association of German Magazine Publishers' (VDZ) Night in Berlin on Monday. The prize was presented to the families of the murdered journalists. The association highlighted that the protection and defence of freedom of the press and freedom of opinion are among the most important requirements of German magazine publishers. In his final work, Kuciak wrote about links between senior employees of the Slovak Government Office and figures close to the Italian Mafia. Kuciak was shot dead in his house in Veľká Mača (Trnava region) in February along with his fiancée Martina Kušnírová.
