Tiso expelled from Greatest Slovak TV poll

At the press conference on Wednesday, after a week full of criticism, the General Director of the public broadcaster, RTVS, Jaroslav Rezník officially announced that the war-time Nazi Slovak state President Jozef Tiso will be excluded from the show The Greatest Slovak. "Following the discussions which were triggered by the [TV show] trailer and which cast shadow on the point of the entire project, narrowing it to the only person, we have implied in the status that the vote could not include a person that was legally found guilty of war crimes, crimes against humanity or treason and was not rehabilitated," said Rezník. The Slovak producer of the program Peter Núňez informed that the expert supervisor historian Dušan Kováč, the Slovak Academy of Sciences senior researcher, Okayed Tiso to be included in the poll as to become a topic of a broad discussion. RTVS promoted the project with trailers presenting the wartime criminal with Prague Spring leader Alexander Dubček and Austro-Hungarian Empress Maria Theresa.
