Slovakia to be second largest receiver of EU funds per capita

Slovakia will have €12 billion available in EU funds in 2021-2027, said the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Crețu on Wednesday after a meeting of the V4 countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia), Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania. Slovakia is thus at the level of Portugal concerning the amount of money spent per citizen and year. The amount of €310 per capita is almost three times higher than the average, and the second highest in the EU, the commissioner added. The entire budget is decreased due to Brexit. According to the Vice-premier for Investment and Informatisation Richard Raši, Slovakia is willing to contribute more to the EU budget with an amount between 1.2% and 1.3% of gross national income if this money goes to support cohesion policy. "However, we want a greater degree of flexibility in drawing funds," said Raši.
