Czech Pavel Hapal is about to become the new coach of the Slovak national football team, with the Slovak Football Association's (SFZ) executive committee tasking its president Ján Kováčik with negotiating the vacant post with Hapal. The position was left vacant following the resignation of Ján Kozák after losing 1:2 to the Czech Republic in the UEFA Nations League Group 1 derby earlier this month. Kozák named the bad and improper behaviour of seven national team players as the main reason for his resignation. The new coach will be officially presented on Wednesday. Hapal will be offered a contract for the duration of one qualification round with an option to extend the contract if the team qualifies for the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship. He will be the first foreign coach of the Slovak national football team.
