The unemployment rate in Slovakia fell to 5.38% in September, according to data released by the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre. This thus represents a drop by 0.04 percentage points month-on-month and by 1.04 percentage points year-on-year. Concerning individual regions, the Prešov region reported the highest unemployment rate (8.98 percent) in September. Two other regions posted rates higher than the Slovak average - the Košice region (8.67 percent) and Banská Bystrica region (7.38 percent). Out of Slovakia's districts, the highest figure was recorded in the Rimavská Sobota district in the Banská Bystrica region (17.17 percent) and the lowest in the Hlohovec district in the Trnava region (2.06 percent). Labour offices reported 84,392 job vacancies in late September, down by 2,456 m-o-m. The highest number of available jobs was posted in the Bratislava region and the lowest in Banská Bystrica region.
