The Slovak Tree of the year is the 235-year-old large leaf linden in Kopčany, western Slovakia. This is the result of the Ekopolis foundation poll that was entered by a record number of over 9,500 voters. The Kopčany linden is a 20 metres tall tree with a trunk circumference of 2.1 metres. It is located right next to St Margaret's Church which is one of the oldest churches on the territory of present-day Slovakia, having been built in the 9th century. The large leaf linden outlining its shape will represent Slovakia in the European tree of the year competition.
