Euroasian Summit to be held in Slovakia once sanctions are lifted

In his speech on Tuesday, at the parliamentary summit of Euroasian states held in the Turkish city of Antalya, Slovak Parliamentary Chair Andrej Danko said that he had been promised by Russia and South Korea that as soon as the EU sanctions against Russia are lifted, the summit will be held in Bratislava. Several months ago, Bratislava was considered as the venue of the third Euroasian parliamentary summit, however the plan was ultimately scrapped, as the Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin - one of the project's initiators - remains on the EU sanctions list is and banned from entering its soil. Because of this, the summit was held in Turkey. The apparent friendship between Volodin and Danko resulted in concern from Slovak MEP and member of the Christian Democrats (KDH) opposition party, Ivan Štefanec. He stated on Wednesday that Danko should reconsider his position as Parliamentary Speaker for his closeness to Volodin, considering the EU-wide sanctions imposed on Russia.
