Slovakia's Presidency of OECD to focus on digitising

During its presidency of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Slovakia will focus on the issues of digitising, OECD Secretary-General Jose Angel Gurria said at the GLOBSEC Tatra Summit 2018 held in Štrbské Pleso (Prešov region) at the weekend. "What is crucial is how we can use it for better public policy," stated Gurria regarding the digitising. According to Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák, one of the issues is the need to change the nature of the Slovak economy to base it more and more on added value and research. He pointed to OECD studies showing that 40 percent of current jobs would be scrapped in Slovakia as a result of global development. "For me it's an opportunity to show that Slovakia is taking part in addressing problems," stated Lajčák. It is also important for Slovakia not to be an assembly hall for Europe and the world, but a country where policies are made and jobs are based on knowledge, stressed the minister.
