Murdered journalists Ján Kuciak from Slovakia and Daphne Caruana Galizia from Malta will be posthumously awarded the Goldene Victoria 2018 - Pressefreiheit media prize in the category of press freedom, the Association of German Magazine Publishers (VDZ) reported on its website on Monday. The prize will be presented to the families of the murdered journalists at the VDZ Publishers' Night in Berlin on November 5. In his last unfinished article, Kuciak wrote about links between senior employees of the Slovak Government Office and figures close to the Italian Mafia, while the Maltese journalist worked on corruption issues and trafficking with Maltese citizenship. Kuciak was shot dead in his house in Veľká Mača (Trnava region) in February, along with his fiancée Martina Kušnírová. Galizia died in a car bomb attack in October 2017.
