A high-speed rail network should link the cities of Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava and Budapest in several years, according to an agreement signed by their respective transport ministers on Monday. Trains on this line should run at a speed of 250 kilometres per hour. The project, which was initiated by Hungary, should significantly reduce travel times between these four countries, and it's expected to be a real alternative to road and air transport. The technical parameters of the new line as well as a preparatory report for a sustainability study should be completed by the end of the year. The four countries involved would like to have this project, requiring billions of euro in financing and decades to build, funded by the European Investment Bank.
