The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport does not wish to strip the Slovak Ice-hockey Association of subsidies over their new hockey national team jerseys, said the Education Minister Martina Lubyová on Wednesday. She thus rejected the threats of the MP for the Slovak National Party, Anton Hrnko, who suggested that the Association should not receive subsidies. The crux of the issue is the dispute whether or not the new national jerseys display Slovakia's coat of arms as mandated by the law. Lubyová believes that there is no coat of arms in the jersey design. The Association recently unveiled its new logo inspired by the Slovak coat of arms, which is also displayed on the national jerseys. The logo is dominated by a white double cross against a red background, with three blue and white peaks made up of raised hockey sticks, designed to symbolise success. The logo bears an inscription HOCKEY SLOVAKIA.
