U.S. Vice President Joe Biden telephoned Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Wednesday to discuss and evaluate relations between the two countries following Fico’s trip to the White House last November, announced the Government Office's press and information department on Thursday.
The two politicians mainly discussed security issues, with Biden voicing his appreciation for Slovakia's willingness to take over an increasing amount of responsibility in response to international developments. The U.S. official also praised the continued presence of Slovakia's armed forces in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. The Government Office also pointed out that Fico invited Biden to visit Slovakia at a meeting in the White House in November. The potential visit may take place on the occasion of the international Globsec security conference due to be held in Bratislava between May 14-16 or alternatively when Slovakia marks the 70th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (19 August). Fico was received by U.S. President Barack Obama and Vice President Biden in the White House on 21 November for talks.
