Austrian Visitors to Slovakia Up 14 percent

The popularity of Slovakia as a tourist destination for Austrians recorded a growth from 50,000 visitors in 2009 to 66,000 in the past year, said Slovak Tourism Agency general director Marta Kucerova.

“A total of 55,000 visitors from our southwest neighbours came to visit Slovakia over the course of the first nine months of 2013, which represents a rise of 14 percent,” said Kucerova. Austrian tourists in Slovakia mostly visit health spas and aqua parks, with the majority coming for one-night stays. Tourists usually arrive from Vienna and its vicinity, due to close proximity and high awareness about offers presented by Bratislava and Slovak tourism. “They're our close neighbours with a natural interest in us. All they need is information about what there is to do in Slovakia," said Bratislava Region Tourism executive director Alzbeta Melicharova.
