Jaslovske Bohunice Residents Approve New Nuclear Power Plant

A total of 63 percent of respondents living in the locality of the decommissioned Jaslovske Bohunice power plant agree with having a new nuclear reactor installed at the location, according to the poll carried out by NMS Market Research on behalf of the Slovak Nuclear Energy Company (JESS) in December.

On the contrary, 36 percent of respondents are against the construction of another nuclear power plant. Up to 96 percent of people are convinced that Slovakia needs to be self-sufficient in terms of energy and produce enough electricity so as not to have to import it from abroad. In their view, a nuclear power plant contributes to stable energy prices and represents a guarantee of a stable electricity supply. According to the poll, inhabitants living close to a nuclear power plant consider the location advantageous from the perspective of employment (91 percent) and the overall development of the region (76 percent).
