New legislation on gambling, tax changes as well as new rules for tax and customs offices will be high on the agenda of the Cabinet session on Wednesday. According to the Finance Ministry, which has submitted the aforementioned legislation, the main priority in gambling regulation is to ensure that punters are better protected. The ministry also wants to de-monopolise a certain part of the portfolio of national lottery company Tipos. Regarding the three laws on taxes, the changes will involve the use of electronic cash registers as well as value-added tax (VAT) and excise taxes. Interior Minister Denisa Saková (Smer-SD) will once again try to push through a law on the Police Corps, which includes changes in the rules for selecting the Police Corps president. Whereas in the original motion she proposed a seven-year tenure for the police chief, the new proposal speaks about a four-year tenure with the possibility of reappointment. Saková submitted the original proposal a few weeks ago, but it was rejected due to disagreement over the tenure of the police chief.
