Online gambling licenses for private companies too

Domestic companies as well as companies in the European Union will be able to apply for online gambling licenses, according to a draft of the gambling law. According to the current legislation, the national lottery company Tipos has a monopoly on the operation of these games. The new rules proposed by the Finance Ministry include a new definition of types of gambling and a definition of new structure and hierarchy of licenses. It also foresees a new Gambling Regulatory Authority to be in charge of overseeing gambling. According to Finance Ministry's calculations, additional revenue from granted licenses and subsequent charges should be €64 million next year, and nearly €25 million euro in 2020. Cabinet should have the draft on the table in the coming days.
