On Wednesday, Slovakia is commemorating the 170th anniversary of the setting up of the Slovak National Council, a political body that organised a Slovak uprising as part of the 1848-49 Revolution within the Kingdom of Hungary. "The Slovak National Council represented the Slovak nation with dignity in its fight for self-determination, a self-reliant status, the codification of the state language, for spiritual and material renewal and in its efforts to achieve statehood," said the Slovak Parliament's press office on Tuesday. September 19 is a Day of Remembrance in Slovakia.
