Almost 10 percent of Slovak children experienced neglect by their parents and some 23 percent have been exposed to physical violence, say findings of the Institute for Labour and Family Research.
It calls for more protection of children, which Slovakia will now grant them. On Wednesday the Government approved the New National Strategy for Protection of Children against Violence. This is a first ever comprehensive material of its kind in Slovakia, which hopes to change the perception of violence against children in the country and the way it is dealt with. The material has set a number of goals for Slovakia, including the creation of special units for tackling such violence, monitoring systems for child protection, adopting violence prevention measures and introducing public campaigns on the issue.
