Racial Violence Day commemorated on Sep. 9

Through various commemorative events, the Slovak public plans to observe the Holocaust and Racial Violence Day, which falls on 9 September. On this day 77 years ago, the Government of the wartime Slovak Republic (1939-1945) issued the so-called Jewish Code. Within 270 paragraphs, this legislation established a special legal regime for citizens of the Jewish faith in Slovakia, who lost their civil rights and thus faced social and economic degradation. One year later, deportations of Jewish citizens to extermination camps began. On Friday, September 7, the Holocaust museum in Sereď opens a new parts of its exposition.
