Transport Minister takes train to work in campaign for fewer cars on roads

Transport and Construction Minister Arpad Érsek (Most-Híd) on Tuesday travelled to work by train as part of the #ideminak (I'm going differently) campaign launched by the ministry on Monday (September 3). "I want to know whether train transport on this route is sufficient, and I was naturally interested in ways of enhancing it further, as trains don't get stuck in traffic jams," said Érsek. He stated that villages that made use of Slovak Rail's offer to build carparks near stations have done a positive thing for local residents and that these projects need to be supported as much as possible. As part of the campaign aimed at reducing the number of cars on the roads, the transport minister personally supports an alternative to passenger car transport involving people travelling alone in their cars. Érsek also offered to share his government car with other MPs on the way to work, resulting in a jab from opposition party Freedom and Solidarity, which said Érsek should act first and foremost like a minister and not like a taxi driver.
