On Saturday, Anna Kolesárová, the decree of whose martyrdom was approved by Pope Francis last month, was officially beatified in Košice. The ceremony took place at the Lokomotíva football stadium and was presided over on the Pope's behalf by Cardinal Angelo Becciu, the new Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Anna Kolesárová was "shot and killed as a 16-year-old by a Soviet soldier (in 1944) as she was attempting to preserve her chastity and dignity," said Bernard Bober Košice, Metropolitan Archbishop, at the ceremony.
