President Andrej Kiska is deeply saddened by the news that the long-term US senator John McCain has died, TASR learnt on Monday from the president's statement on Twitter.
Kiska described McCain as "a man of courage, of strong principles and a tireless fighter for the values we share on both sides of the Atlantic". The Slovak president also expressed his deepest sympathies to the family of the American senator. A Vietnam War hero and US senator from Arizona born in 1936, McCain died of brain cancer at the age of 81 on Sunday (August 26).
