On the occasion of the regional celebrations of the 74th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising, top Slovak authorities visited several sites of heavy fighting across the country on Saturday. As the Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini stressed in his speech at Jankov Vŕšok in western Slovakia, the locality witnessed heavy fighting against the fascist oppressors. "If it were necessary to stand up today, I seriously doubt that as many people would find the courage today as in 1944," he noted. To live in peace should not be a matter of course for anyone; everyone should do something to achieve it, said Vice-premier Richard Raši during the celebrations on Kojšovská Hoľa mountain in eastern Slovakia. Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš attending the Zlatno-Skýcov educational partisan trail in western Slovakia added: "Today we can be rightfully proud to say that our nation, which until then had not been particularly striking, became a part of the European wave of anti-fascist and national liberation".
