The Education Ministry has agreed with the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) on further procedures in connection with registering SAV institutes as public research institutions (VVI), stated the Deputy Prime Minister for Investment and Informatisation, Richard Raši, on Thursday. The step came after President Andrej Kiska vetoed the amendment to the SAV Act in July, stating that it "does not provide a guarantee of strengthening the quality of university education and also brings reasonable worries as to whether it might not worsen the situation." As the Education Ministry wrote in its statement, the results of the negotiations between SAV, the Ministry and the parliamentary committee for education and science showed that the requirements of the SAV Act had been delivered late. The amendment to the SAV Act will be discussed at the next parliamentary session on September 11. The parties agreed that the Education Ministry would act on the matter of registration in line with the SAV Act and the VVI Act by September 11.
