Journalists sign resolution on Kuciak's murder

More than 300 Slovak journalists and publishers have signed a resolution that reflects on the six months that have passed since the murders of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová. They joined together in order to urge the public not to forget this crime or the absolute need for investigative journalists in a democratic country, the websites of Aktuality, Denník N and SME dailies reported on Friday. "We still don't know who killed them and why. We still harbour doubts as to whether the investigation is really independent. As fundamental changes haven't been made to the police or Prosecutor's Office in the wake of the murders, trust in a genuine investigation can hardly be inspired," reads the open letter. The journalists and publishers also underline that although they were shaken by the murder of their colleague, it has failed to intimidate them. Therefore, they will not stop raising questions, mounting investigations and checking on politicians and public officials, as independent journalists are indispensable for a democratic country. Investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová were murdered on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at their house in Veľká Mača, western Slovakia.
