Due to the three year old citizenship law, 701 people lost their Slovak passport. 300 men and 401 women took citizenship of another country even though it meant losing that right of their home country with 284 taking up Czech passports.
Brought in, 17.7.2010 in reaction to Hungary easing the laws for Hungarians in other countries to reclaim citizenship it seems although that only 47 Slovaks took up that right. The new law will open the door for these people to reclaim their passports said the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry Ivan Netík, "those who lost their citizenship will have to reapply for it."
