Miroslav Lajčák Sends Condolences to Israel

Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák on Saturday sent a letter of condolences to his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman in response to the death of former prime minister Ariel Sharon, expressing his deep sympathies with the whole Israeli nation.

“With him a great fighter, who contributed to the emergence of the State of Israel and dedicated a considerable part of his own life to the protection of the country, has departed,” wrote Lajčák, adding that Sharon will always remain in Slovakia's memory as a charismatic figure of sound principles and attitudes. The former Israeli prime minister (2001-06) died at the age of 85 early on Saturday after spending eight years in a coma.
