If it is confirmed that former Vietnamese state businessman Trinh Xuan Thanh was kidnapped and that Slovakia played a part in the abduction, Slovakia should expel the Vietnamese ambassador, stated Most-Híd chair and Parliamentary vice-chair Béla Bugár on Tuesday. He added that if the allegations are true, he will pull his party out of the governing coalition. Trinh Xuan Thanh was allegedly kidnapped in 2017 while seeking asylum in Berlin, Germany, and moved to Bratislava to coincide with a Vietnamese delegation meeting with members of the Slovak government. German police investigators believe he may have then been sedated and placed aboard the Slovak government plane which was provided for the Vietnamese delegation in Bratislava, then flown to Moscow and onwards to Vietnam. The Vietnamese government claims that Thanh voluntarily returned to Vietnam to face trial and imprisonment. He is now serving two life sentences for financial losses during his management of a state-run company.
