Outgoing Slovak Ambassador to USA Bids Farewell

The Slovak Ambassador to the United States, Peter Kmeč, whose diplomatic mission in the country is ending in August after six years, bid farewell to his Slovak compatriots and colleagues last week. Kmeč will be replaced in his post by Deputy Foreign and European Affairs Minister Ivan Korčok. The farewell ceremony at the Slovak Embassy in Washington was attended by local Slovaks, representatives of compatriot organisations, Slovak honorary consuls in the USA, ambassadors and representatives of several European embassies, as well as officials of the US Department of State. Kmeč described the period as very intense. Many things have happened in the field of relations between Slovakia and the USA, he told TASR, highlighting the two countries' security cooperation in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Western Balkans and eastern Europe, along with economic cooperation.
