US ties with Slovakia defined by friendship & alliance

The relationship between Slovakia and the United States can be characterised by words such as "friends, partners, allies," US ambassador to Slovakia Adam Sterling told TASR on Tuesday. "People who have shared common values and history serve as a strong base for our relations," said Sterling, adding that building on this base contributes towards closer collaboration on political, economic and security issues. The US launched diplomatic relations with Slovakia in 1993. The list of US goods imported into Slovakia includes electronic devices, medical supplies and appliances, automobile parts, components and chemical products, among others, whereas Volkswagen and Audi cars made in Slovakia make up the preponderance of Slovakia's exports to the USA. The USA has a bilateral investment agreement with Slovakia and Slovaks can utilise a visa-free programme, which guarantees that Slovak citizens can travel to the US without a visa for specific trade or tourism purposes for up to 90 days.
