Slovakia wants to release Jandiev to Russia

Slovakia was to deport asylum seeker Aslan Jandiev to the Russian Federation on Tuesday despite the fact that the UN Human rights Committee issued, in June, a preliminary ban to do that. Russian authorities accuse Jandiev of terrorism, he claims he was tortured to admit his alleged crimes. The Slovak Justice Ministry reacted to the information of Amnesty International Slovakia arguing that on May 30, the European Court of Human Rights refused to issue a similar ban. Deporting Jandiev to Russia can be now cancelled by the Slovak Constitutional Court. Amnesty International Slovakia's Kamila Gunišová warns Slovak authorities by pointing at the increased number of extra-judicial executions and torture in Ingushetia, Jandiev's home country in the northern Caucasus. Jandiev was been imprisoned in Slovakia in 2011 after Russian authorities issued an international arrest warrant due to his alleged terrorist activities. He has sought asylum in Slovakia since 2008 while having it denied in Switzerland and Belgium.
