On Thursday, Slovak Education Minister Martina Lubyova and the US Ambassador to Slovakia, Adam Sterling, extended a recently expired inter-governmental agreement on cooperation in science and research. The agreement, extended by 10 years, should open new opportunities in basic and innovative research, and trade and development activities. According to the Ministry's press department, joint activities will be carried out as part of coordinated programmes and research projects, seminars and conferences, and the exchange of information and scientific personnel. As for specific issues, cooperation between the two countries will focus, for example, on the protection of the environment and biodiversity, energy, IT, space, global monitoring, HIV/AIDS and other health issues, agriculture, natural resources, human nutrition, food safety, genetics and genetic engineering.
