"The Council of Europe, thanks to its moral authority as well as its experts' potential, helped to force the democratic process in Europe and in respective countries, mostly after 1989. The Council also delivered help to Slovakia, when it came to the transformation process, which one cannot substitute otherwise. We have subsequently fulfilled our commitments resulting from our membership in the Council of Europe and so the values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Slovakia could find a stabile place here."
Said Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini before members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on Wednesday. The bust of the internationally respected Slovak politician Alexander Dubček and a star featuring a quotation of his were unveiled to remember Slovakia's entry into the Council of Europe at this occasion.
