One billion euros for new aircraft

The Slovak Defence Ministry should submit a proposal concerning the future of the country's supersonic air force to Cabinet before its summer break. This stems from statements made by Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Gajdoš postponed presenting the decision about the future contract for buying new fighter jets until July 11. The acquisition of 14 new supersonic fighter jets is questioned by the political opposition as well as security experts, who criticise the Defence Ministry for a lack of publicised information. Slovakia plans to allocate more than one billion euro for new aircraft. American F-16 or Swedish Gripen jets are currently under consideration.
