Parliament condemns extremism, intolerance and hatred

MPs expressed their concern about rising displays of extremism, intolerance, xenophobia and hatred in society at a parliamentary session on Wednesday through the adoption of a resolution condemning such acts with 129 votes. This stems from the recent killing of Filipino national Henry Acorda, who was attacked by a Slovak man from Dunajská Streda (Trnava region) in the centre of Bratislava last month and succumbed to his injuries a few days later. Acorda attempted to put a stop to the harassment of two women. If we don't stand up against them now, the number of these incidents will go up, and this will have terrible consequences for our state and society, reads the resolution. Coincidentally, all members of the far-right People's Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) also voted for the resolution. "These demonstrations have recently culminated in a number of violent incidents, and sadly, they've often been directed against the weaker, the older, women and foreigners," reads a statement that was submitted to Parliament by foreign affairs committee chair Katarína Cséfalvayová (Most-Hid).
